PRINCIPAL’S ADDRESS

**Financial Report- as of 3/7/2012 there is $2470.64. No change since last month’s meeting.

  • April 12       - Expanding Farm-to-School and Local Foods into School Meals presentation, 6-8 pm, EHS cafeteria
  • April 18       - Fine Arts Festival, EHS
  • April 19       - 7th Grade Parent/Guardian night
  • April 20       - Dance

FOLLOW-UP BUSINESS
  • How did the basketball tournament go? Went well. The Harveys did a wonderful job with the food. ADL got the sportsmanship award.
  • Is the GASP committee all set for tomorrow night? YES
  • Next school year’s Scholastic Book Fair date has changed to 11/5-11/8, due to a change in date of the November Band Concert. This has been organized and confirmed with Scholastic.
  • The Tween/Internet Safety Talk following the 2/2/12 PaP meeting was very informative and well-presented. However, it was sparsely attended. An email was sent out to the PaP master list asking for times that might be more convenient for these presentations so that attendance would be higher. It seemed that evenings really are the best, but that folks are just very busy. Another popular suggestion was immediately following student dropoff in the morning. Another parent wondered if doing some “brown bag” lunchtime presentations might be convenient for folks. I also had a couple of comments from parents stating that the presentations might be too repetitive of presentations done in the past and that much of the information presented is “common sense.” Any thoughts?
  • Following the presentation on 2/2, a parent sent an email to Nicole, Cori and Hector asking if they might consider a presentation(s) on the issues the different genders face in middle school and specifically hearing a bit more on the issues boys deal with (not only problems) and how to build resilience in middle schoolers. It was also suggested that perhaps a presentation dealing with teaching girls how to handle negative feelings such as jealously, conflict, etc. might be timely. Perhaps these are some topics to begin to consider another presentation for next school year or even later this year?
  • I have begun brainstorming for Staff Appreciation Week, May 7-11. I have two bigger events lined up for two days of that week already. My “committee” consists of three of us, and we are going to just work together via emails, etc. I plan to mail out letters to local businesses at the end of this month looking for donations for the daily raffles we plan to have. It is beginning to come together somewhat. If anyone would like to help out or have some great ideas, please let me know. (Also, the 8th grade science NECAPS are the 9th and 10th.)
OTHER BUSINESS?
  • Beautification Project: May 12 is slated as the day for this. Gary Moreau is part of a team doing some work, and Jeff Kent is working on a Boy Scout Eagle Project that we might be part of. Other ideas include some raised bed gardens on the side.
  •  Online site for storing our How To Documents: We discussed some options Paul has come up with, and we’ve settled on using a free Google Sites web site. We’ll make it public to read, but we’ll control who can edit the pages. For now, people should feel free to email content to Paul, and he’ll post it. The URL is https://sites.google.com/site/adlparentsaspartners/, and we’ll add a link to it from our ADL PaP page. It’s possible to subscribe yourself to updates.
Next meeting date is 4/5 at 6:30 pm. I hope you can all join us!!
